The Bay Cat (Catopuma badia), also known as Borneo bay cat and Bornean bay cat, is a small wild cat native to the Indonesian island of Borneo. It is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.[1] There are about 2,500 mature ones left in the wild. Their population is declining due to habitat destruction and hunting for their pelts and pet trade.
Bay cats are carnivores and their diet includes a variety of small animals. They primarily prey on small rodents, various species of birds, and monkeys. They may also consume dead carrion when available.
They are found exclusively on the island of Borneo. They inhabit dense primary forests, rocky limestone areas, and sometimes partially logged forests. They are also found near rivers and in highland regions.
