The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized wild cat native to South and Southeast Asia. It is unfortunately listed Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.[1]
Diet[]
The fishing cat is carnivorous by nature where it eats birds, small rodents and reptiles like snakes but its mainly consumes fish. Fish makes up ¾ of its diet
Behaviour[]
The fishing cat is nocturnal, mostly hunting at night. It can swim far on water, even underwater. They can be seen foraging near water bodies, clutching prey. Fishing cats like to obtain food in shallow waters , spending half the time waiting for prey. Adult fishing cats are seen making a "chuckling" sound.
